As part of Lodge St. Margaret’s Sesquicentennial Celebrations in 2024 the members of the Lodge decided to cement its place in the community by making donations to 23 local good causes. These organisations make valuable contributions to the community of Queensferry and are run by enthusiastic volunteers. In selecting these smaller groups the Lodge’s donation will hopefully make a difference to their operation.
Making donations and giving to charities is one of the principal tenets of Freemasonry and these donations add to the £70, 000 distributed locally by Lodge St. Margaret since 2005. The money was raised at a series of annual charity dinners in the Lodge, with around £35,000 given to the Ferry Fair Festival.
The Master of the Lodge Brother John Anderson commented: “This is a very special year for the Lodge and it is important that we celebrate with the community of Queensferry and continue to make donations that benefit those hardworking volunteers who want to improve the landscape, lives and enjoyment of the inhabitants of this lovely town.”
Margaret Aitken, treasurer of Enable South Queensferry and District said: “We thank you again for Lodge St. Margaret’s kindness including Enable for a donation it’s very much appreciated. Our Branch has been going for about 46years thanks to the South Queensferry community and organisations like yourself for their generosity. I know my Mum, Kathleen Dooley and Rona Kinnell the founders of our Branch, will be looking down bursting with pride that we are still going and being helped by the Lodge.”
Ian Harrower, Queensferry Scout Group said: ”Thank you so much for considering the Scout Group as part of your share of your celebrations, it is very much appreciated to understand that the hard work of all our volunteers in the Group is recognised and appreciated by the community! As you will be aware, Scouting in Queensferry just squeezed past 100 years of known existence at some point during 2022 / 23 which of course we celebrated in a number of ways both internally and more outwardly.”
