Our 150th Celebrations

Lodge St Margaret No 548 lies at the heart of the former Royal Burgh of Queensferry and since it was chartered on 2nd February 1874 by the Grand Lodge of Scotland it has practised Freemasonry at its premises in Stoneycroft Road for 150 years. Previously, the building was the local school and in December 1874 the Lodge purchased the property from Dalmeny and Queensferry School Board for the sum of £200.

In 2024, the Lodge celebrated its Sesquicentennial and over 100 Freemasons from Scotland, England and Denmark met in the Masonic Hall for the Rededication Ceremony. The members of Lodge St Margaret No 548 were delighted that the Grand Lodge of Scotland headed by Brother Dr Joseph J Morrow CVO, CBE, KC, Grand Master Mason carried out the ceremonial.

In addition to leading Scottish Freemasonry and its 680 Lodges in Scotland and 300 overseas, Bro Dr Joseph J Morrow on 14 February 2014, was appointed by the Late Queen Elizabeth to the office of Lord Lyon King of Arms, which is one of the Great Officers of State in Scotland and today he combines these two important roles.

After the Rededication Ceremony the Brethren walked to the Rosebery Hall for a celebration dinner followed by various toasts. During the speeches Brother John Anderson, Master of Lodge St Margaret presented the Grand Master Mason with a cheque for £1000 to go to the Benevolent Funds of the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

After many months of planning the day of celebration was considered a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
